Straight build

The 4th entry in the 1/100 VS Astray variation series is the Nix Providence Gundam, a modified version of the Providence Gundam. Just like the previous entries, it's a newly refined version where all the armor has been dismantled, redistributed, and recombined with additional parts. Compared to the original Providence, the colors are more vibrant, giving it a much more colorful look overall.

The basic build quality is pretty much the same as the reasonably priced and solid Providence kit.. but the parts combination and color scheme are quite nice, and above all, there's just so much stuff hanging off it and the sheer size of it gives it a really impressive presence. I'd say it's easily the most impressive-looking kit you can get for ¥2500. The articulation isn't great and there aren't many external weapons to work with, so there's not much you can do in terms of action poses,, but just standing it up as-is still gives off a pretty commanding vibe. With so much stuff attached you might worry a bit about joint strength, but it holds up just fine for display purposes.

All in all, among the VS Astray 1/100 variation kits that I'd previously seen as just a quirky little series, this one stands out as the most satisfying in terms of design. That size, that presence, for ¥2500 — it's a pretty attractive item. :-)
