Kit Review

Whether it was to celebrate the 2009 PG Astray release or not, a bunch of Asia-exclusive clear versions suddenly dropped all at once. Among them, the 1/100 Blitz Gundam got the clear version treatment too, which feels a bit random — it's a little puzzling why a non-Astray kit got bundled in as a limited release. (Why the Blitz of all things?)
The original Blitz kit itself was a pretty solid kit, and kits with darker colors generally don't tend to get clear versions very often — because even when they do go clear, the transparency takes a hit due to the color. So with the Blitz Clear version too, it's a bit hard to tell at a glance from a distance whether it's actually clear or not.
But up close, it does have a nice jewel-like clarity to it, and the primary-colored clear parts in purple, red, and yellow in particular really pop and give it that distinctive limited-edition feel. The hard clear plastic makes gate mark cleanup a bit of a pain, but articulation, functionality, and joint strength are all solid, so the build experience isn't bad at all.
Since it's a mass-produced limited release, it was fairly easy to get your hands on early — and thanks to that, you could pick it up at regular kit prices even though it's a limited edition, making it a pretty great value for a clear version. The real question is how you feel about the Blitz itself as a suit, but if you've always had a soft spot for the Blitz Gundam, this is definitely a kit worth enjoying. :-)
