Strike Freedom Gundam vs. Legend Gundam Clear Color ver.

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit was once released as a limited edition, then got a re-release (?) as an Asia-exclusive limited edition — so it's a limited that's not quite a limited. It's a clear color combo pack of the 1/100 Strike Freedom and Legend Gundam, literally two kits packaged together in one box.

The Strike Freedom Gundam comes in milky clear while the Legend Gundam is done in smoked clear, giving each a distinctly different look. Even though they're No Grade with no inner frame, the internal detail still shows through nicely with a good sense of depth. As you'd expect from clear versions, cleaning up the gates is a bit of a pain, but the joint strength is actually much better than the normal releases — so despite the heavy backpack, you can get some pretty stable poses. No matter what position you put them in, they hold their shape well.

Overall, I actually think the Legend Gundam looks cooler with its deep, rich color compared to the slightly hazy look of the Strike Freedom. The Legend Gundam was already a bit better in terms of base quality to begin with, too.

It's not exactly a "special" feeling kit, but the appeal here is being able to get two clear limited editions at a pretty reasonable price. Since both the 1/100 Strike Freedom and Legend Gundam were solid kits to begin with, aside from proportions that look just a notch below MG level, I'd say this is a limited edition that gives you good bang for your buck. :-)
