Sword Strike Gundam

Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining

Following the Aile Strike, the Sword Strike has been released in 1/100 scale.
The Sword Pack has the most parts of any weapon pack, solid volume, and great looks,
making it the most popular weapon pack of the bunch. Sure, in the anime
the Aile Pack gets used most of the time, but in terms of actual popularity,
the Sword Pack seems to come out on top.

Since the base body is
100% identical to the Aile Strike, for details on articulation and overall construction, please refer to the 1/100
Aile Strike review.
The 1/100 Sword Strike Gundam is a typical variation kit — it swaps out the Aile Pack runners for two Sword Pack runners and includes a slightly updated Kira Yamato figure.

The molded colors on the Sword Pack parts are excellent, and the color separation is pretty well done too.
That said, the sword itself has a somewhat complex color scheme, and the dark blue areas are handled with seals.
Those seals have a slightly shiny finish and only cover part of the surface, so they don't look all that great.
If you have the time, it's worth doing at least some partial painting. (Full paint is obviously even better, of course~)

The beam section of the sword is represented by a soft, semi-transparent pink part that can be attached and detached — the material feels nice.
The Panzer Eisen claw weapon on the forearm has a detachable claw section, and by using the separately included rod part, you can pose it in a firing position.
It's a bit on the short side, but it actually holds its shape better than a wire-based flexible version would.
The Midas Messer — the short blade-like weapon on the shoulder — can also be pulled out and used as a single blade,
though it tends to be a bit loose when plugged into the shoulder and falls out easily.

The real strength of the Sword Strike is the sheer coolness of action poses with the sword equipped.
Swinging that long ~26cm blade makes for some really dynamic poses, and interestingly,
the fixed hands (as opposed to the articulated MG-style ones) actually hold the sword really well without dropping it — a surprisingly nice advantage. (^^;)
Sure, swapping hand parts in and out is a bit of a hassle, but it still feels way better than an MG where the grip is too weak and the sword keeps falling.
The body joints are also nice and stiff overall, so poses hold well.

Personally, I like this one more than the Aile Strike in every way — style, colors, you name it.
Maybe that's why it was the first to sell out among the first-run releases of the Aile, Sword, and Launcher Strike Gundam kits.
If you can only pick one of the three, the Sword is hands-down my recommendation. ^^
