Duel Gundam Assaultshroud

Kit Review

Snap-fit + Panel lining

The Duel Gundam Assaultshroud — capable of equipping the Assaultshroud armor — has been released in 1/100 scale. Like the Gundam NT-1, it includes both the base Duel Gundam and the externally mounted armor, but the price comes in at ¥2200, which is pretty reasonable for a non-grade 1/100.

First off, what really catches the eye with this kit is actually the base unit without the armor, rather than with it on. The relatively clean styling, the nice molded colors, and above all the articulation really stand out. Since the design itself has no skirts to begin with, the front-to-back range of motion on the thighs is no joke~ It bends all the way forward and back, letting you pull off those weird yoga poses you see in the photos. And with no ankle guards either, you can take full advantage of the double-jointed ankles' entire range of motion.

With none of those restrictive parts in the way, the lower body articulation is really impressive, and it's easy to get natural-looking action poses. The joints aren't loose or stiff either — they're just right, so poses hold well.

Once you put the armor on, all that articulation gets restricted and it becomes pretty average, so honestly I prefer building it as just the base Duel Gundam. Aside from the seam lines being slightly more noticeable than on some other kits, there are almost no downsides — this is easily one of the best bang-for-your-buck Gunpla out there.
