Kit Review
Straight build + partial paint + panel lining
Straight build + partial paint + panel lining
As the first of the three Gundam SEED drug-enhanced trio to get the HG treatment, we have the Calamity Gundam. "Calamity" means disaster or catastrophe — not really sure what they were going for with that naming sense;;
First off, the color combination is a bit unusual compared to other HGs, but the color separation is actually pretty well done. That'll make painting easier too. One odd thing though — the front of the body has nearly perfect color separation, but strangely, the touch-up painting is heavily concentrated on the back, mostly around the gray vernier areas.
Also, the bright-colored (yellow) parts at the tip of the shield are a recurring issue — no color separation and no seals included either. The molded colors are a bit quirky too, but I'd say they're faithful to the source material. Even as a straight straight build, the colors are nice and varied, which is pretty cool ^^
The biggest feature of the Calamity Gundam is the shoulder beam cannons — they're quite large and give off a serious presence. Maybe because of those cannons, there's basically no other weaponry included aside from a handheld bazooka and beam sabers. The kit holds its own on its own merits, but it does feel a little sparse...
The joints are on the sturdy side, and the articulation is decent enough — above average — so you can pull off all kinds of poses. In a way, it's not a kit with any particularly standout features, but if you like the design, the relatively thorough color separation and solid joints mean you won't have much to worry about in terms of quality. ^^
