HG GAT-X252

Forbidden Gundam

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is the second of the Gundam SEED drug trio, the HG Forbidden Gundam. In terms of performance and weapon effectiveness, it's honestly kind of a broken character — you could argue it's the most overpowered unit in SEED. It's loaded with a giant scythe (the Nidhoggr), a turtle-shell-like contraption (the guided plasma cannon Hresvelgr + the energy deflection system Geschmeidig Panzer), and a bunch of other weirdly named but distinctive weapons.

The color combination could come across as a bit tacky, but they've pulled it off reasonably well with the molded colors. That said, the overall look isn't exactly clean. The massive backpack equipment throws off the proportions quite a bit — though being an HG kit it's at least lightweight enough to hold together. Still, it's not the easiest kit to get standing in a stable pose.

Ironically, the huge backpack equipment actually looks its best when spread out horizontally — it displays really well that way, and gives off a vibe you just don't see in other Gunpla. The scythe keeps reminding me of Wing Gundam Deathscythe, but the overall style is definitely unique in its own right.

As a kit, it has pretty average articulation and joint strength with nothing particularly standout in terms of construction — but the unusual weapon loadout is genuinely distinctive, and the in-universe gimmicks are reproduced pretty faithfully. Setting aside whether you like the design or not, the kit itself is actually quite solid. If you're a fan of the Forbidden Gundam, this should be more than satisfying enough. :-)
