Straight build + panel lining + partial painting
The HG Zaku Warrior variations have begun. First up is the Gunner type — the Lunamaria Hawke Custom.
The Lunamaria Hawke Custom is a Char-lineage pink unit, and the main body is 100% identical to the regular Zaku Warrior — it's simply a different molded color version. The color is deeper than your typical Char pink, leaning more toward a dark magenta/purple, and the molded color quality is really nice. In photos the lighting makes it look a bit flat, but in person the color has real depth to it — a matte, premium feel. Interestingly, the no-grade 1/144 Lunamaria unit used the same soft pink as the classic HGUC Char's Zaku line, but the HG version has changed the color outright to this darker purple. (See photos for comparison.)
The Gunner type Zaku Warrior comes with the M1500 Orthros long-range beam cannon. In storage mode, the front and rear sections fold in and tuck behind the unit. Fully extended, it's impressively long — similar weapons like the Launcher Strike and Buster Gundam exist, but this one is way longer than either of them. The color separation isn't quite complete though, so I did some partial painting in white on the backpack tank and several spots along the barrel.
The long-range beam cannon connects to the backpack via a double joint, letting you swing the barrel forward and fold it inward once more. Thanks to this clever setup, the right hand can grip the barrel in a very natural way. The connection points are also fairly stiff and solid, so there's no wobbling or drooping — it holds its position firmly. Given the size of that barrel, that's a real relief~ Action poses with the beam cannon look seriously imposing thanks to its sheer size, but there aren't all that many different poses you can pull off with it. ^^;
All the other weapons and accessories are identical to the regular Zaku Warrior, and since the articulation, joint design, detail, and color separation are all the same, it still boasts excellent quality throughout. The newly added weapon is also very clean, aside from the slight burden of some partial painting. In particular, the way it locks in solidly despite its large size definitely earns high marks. This is a great kit that just makes you look forward to more Zaku Warrior variations down the line. ^^
