This is the Blaze Zaku Phantom, which we all pretty much expected to get an HG release. Just like with the 1/100, the white Blaze Zaku Phantom in Rey Za Burrel's colors came out first. The base body is the same as the existing HG Zaku Warrior, so for a detailed review please refer to the HG Zaku Warrior
reviewThe only difference is the Phantom unit's signature setup with shields mounted on both shoulders.
The bright purple and white molded colors are completely identical to the 1/100, and that soft, pastel-like feel is really nice. The added Blaze Wizard turned out really well — comparing it to the 1/100, the detail barely falls behind at all. The color separation is nearly on par with the 1/100 too, with only the verniers being slightly different. Missile pod opening is included as standard! The shell alone looks so good it's honestly hard to tell whether you're looking at a 1/100 or a 1/144.
The 1/100 Blaze Zaku Phantom that came out earlier already had a a great build and a flashy look, but the 1/144 HG Blaze Zaku Phantom — which feels like a straight-up miniaturized version — gives off a more compact and neatly packed impression rather than that imposing presence. And unlike the 1/100, which tended to lean back a bit due to the heavy backpack, this one can actually stand up straighter.
The base body is already top-notch quality, and with all the extra gear hanging off it the kit looks pretty impressive, so the satisfaction after building it is definitely guaranteed. The Zaku Warrior has been getting a ton of variations thanks to its popularity, and while it might seem like a lot, I'd say it's actually a positive thing in that it gives you plenty of options to choose from. ^^
