Kerberos BuCUE Hound

Kit Review

Straight build

The Kerberos BuCUE Hound — a variation of the Mobile BuCUE, one of the most iconic quadruped mobile suits from the Gundam SEED universe — has been released as an HG kit. You'd think the original Mobile BuCUE would have come out first, but for whatever reason, this three-headed version got released first.

Kerberos is the three-headed dog that guards the gates of the underworld in Greek mythology, and true to its name, this kit adds a Kerberos Wizard unit with two extra heads, giving the BuCUE a total of three heads. The standout feature of this kit is the neck construction — a unique combination of wire and multi-jointed vertebra-shaped parts that lets the necks bend flexibly in all sorts of directions. They bend as smoothly as if you were bending a piece of wire.

The base Mobile BuCUE body itself has pretty solid articulation — the legs can fold and extend fully, and the waist can bend in all directions, so you can pull off a wide variety of poses. The treads on the back of the legs even use rubber material and replicate the mid-section bending gimmick from the show, which means the driving mode with all four treads flat on the ground looks really clean too.

The kit also comes with a generous amount of beam parts — you can load up all three heads with them and set up some flashy beam action scenes. There's also a stand mounting hole on the belly for dynamic display poses. The only catch is that a 1/144 stand isn't included in the box, so you'll need to borrow one from another kit. ^^;

As an added feature, you can detach the Kerberos Wizard and plug it onto the back of the HG Zaku Warrior, or conversely, mount the Zaku Warrior's backpack gimmicks onto this kit. It doesn't really look all that great either way.. (^^;) but it's a fun little feature nonetheless.

All in all, this is a really versatile kit — with a wide variety of poses you can recreate and plenty of articulation, it's both fun to build and fun to play around with. If you're into four-legged beast-type mecha kits, this is one seriously unique kit worth giving a shot. :-)
