Kit Review

The high-quality HG Astray series keeps on coming, and this time it's the Gold Frame Amatsu Mina. In terms of lore, the differences between the standard Amatsu and the Amatsu Mina are the pointed feet and the addition of the Tsumuha no Tachi weapon on the left arm — but since those parts were already included in the old 1/100 Amatsu kit, this is essentially the same structure as before.
That said… the whole point of the Gold Frame is that gold-plated frame, but this kit was released with a plain, dull yellowish-brown frame instead of plating. On the upside, that does bring the price down to a pretty reasonable ¥1800 — and since the frame even has undergates applied, it seems pretty likely that a plated version will be released in some form down the line. On the bright side, the black parts at least come out beautifully glossy thanks to proper gloss injection molding.
Since it's built on the fully renewed Astray frame, the basic articulation and joint characteristics are the same as the previous kits. Thanks to the sturdy joints and excellent joint strength, you can pull off all kinds of poses freely, and those massive wings really let you strike some seriously dynamic poses.
The optional features are all well-realized too — the Maga no Shirahoko launch scene using the wire and the Tsumuha no Tachi's movement gimmick on the left arm are both nicely implemented. The Trikeros Kai is cleanly done as well, and wherever the color separation falls short, stickers are carefully applied to cover it, so the straight build looks great right out of the box. In every way, this kit holds up completely against the old 1/100 — no compromises at all.
Sure, it's a shame the gold plating is missing, but aside from that it's a high-quality HG kit that's hard to find fault with — making it a great kit I'd recommend to any Gunpla fan. :-)
