Gundam Astray Gold Frame Amatsu

Kit Review

Straight build

This is the HG Gundam Astray Gold Frame Amatsu, released as a Bandai Online Hobby Shop (Club G) exclusive. It's a variation kit of the previously retail-released Amatsu Mina, and just like that one, it comes molded in a dull yellowish-gold color rather than an actual gold coating. I was kind of expecting a gold-plated version since it's a limited release, but I guess that'll come later if at all.

There are three main differences between the Amatsu Mina and the Amatsu. First, the standard Amatsu has legs and feet redesigned to match the regular Astray. On top of that, the Tsumuha-no-Tachi mounted on the back of the left forearm and the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi mounted on the side are both absent on the standard Amatsu.

Aside from those differences, everything else is 100% identical to the Amatsu Mina, so you get the same excellent articulation, joint strength, and impressive color separation that make this one of the best modern HG Astrays out there. In some ways, the slightly less cluttered design compared to the Amatsu Mina actually makes it a bit easier to pose, too.

Anyway, this limited release is really just about spotting the differences between the retail Amatsu Mina and the standard Amatsu — there's not much else new to look at here. Some folks might be disappointed it's not a gold-plated version despite being a limited release, but if you're an Astray fan, it's still a pretty interesting addition to the collection. :-)
