Forbidden Gundam Remaster Ver.

Kit Review

Straight build

The second of the drug trio machines, Forbidden Gundam, has been released as a Remaster version. In the original lineup, Calamity Gundam was a reasonably decent kit, but honestly Forbidden and Raider Gundam that came after it were a bit iffy in terms of quality. So I was hoping the Remaster version would improve things somewhat.. hmm.

For starters, the base bright teal molded color is nearly identical to the original version — it looks like they just reused it as-is, so there's no real sense of anything new. The green molded color on the backpack is slightly darker overall, so there's at least a small difference there. And like the previous releases, the weapon and joint parts have had their molded colors changed, but rather than switching to a hard metallic plastic, it's just been tweaked to look slightly more metallic in color. I was actually hoping for a proper metallic plastic swap since that tends to make the joints sturdier, but Forbidden Gundam already had shaky joints to begin with, and unfortunately this release does nothing to reinforce them.

So this ends up being the Remaster version with the least noticeable change in molded color, and with barely any improvement to the joints that were already a weak point in the original — it's a kit that doesn't offer much as an upgrade.

Anyway, it's a pretty unique mobile suit, and I was hoping the Remaster would bring sturdier joints and a bolder color scheme, but not much has changed, which is a bit of a letdown. If I had to pick between the two, I'd say the Remaster is still the better choice since it adds an action base part and seals that weren't in the original — so there's that at least. :-)
