Academy Galient

Promaxis

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This kit is the Promaxis, released as part of Academy's stationery store series. For old-school fans, Galientalong with Galient, it was one of the most memorable mechs around. The original pronunciation is "Promakis," but somehow it ended up being called Promaxis the Academy way.

First of all, centaur-type mechs are pretty rare, so just having the Promaxis get an official plastic model release is already great news. The joint strength is a massive step up compared to the previous Galient kit. The polycap joints throughout — head, waist, shoulders, legs — all hold nice and firm, making both standing upright and posing a lot smoother. That said, there are still quite a few spots where the snap-fit isn't very secure, and some parts will feel wobbly unless you glue them down.

In my case, gluing down the heels on all four feet, the front neck part, and the shoulder armor connection points made things a lot more stable. Beyond that, there are still some issues — the forearm armor pops off way too easily, and some armor panels have gaps that open up. I guess since they went with the premium inner frame-plus-armor structure, it's naturally going to fall a bit short compared to Bandai's snap-fit connections. And the hand holding the big lance has a really weak grip too — without gluing it, it barely stays in place.

So yeah, there are still some iffy snap-fit spots here and there, but thankfully most of the connections hold up fine without too much trouble. Articulation is decent overall, and you can pull off some pretty dynamic poses. The so-called "Napoleon pose" with the front legs raised actually looks pretty convincing, though you'll need to borrow a stand to support the upper body. Given the centaur-style build, it would've been really nice if a stand had been included just for that pose — that's a bit of a missed opportunity.

To wrap it up — some parts are still a bit shaky, but overall the stability and joint strength are a big improvement over Galient. With so many legs, you might worry about the joints, but thankfully it stands upright and poses well enough. Even if you were disappointed by Galient's joints, this should be satisfying enough. And for old-school fans like me who've been waiting for a Promaxis plastic model, this is a real treat. On top of that, being a domestic Korean release means you get a lot of content for a very reasonable price, so it's definitely worth picking up without hesitation. Go Academy~! :-)
