Tomy Zoids RM

Molga Guylos Color

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is the Molga Guylos Color, released as No. 5 in the Takaratomy Realize Model lineup. It's the well-known caterpillar-type Zoid, and Kotobukiya has released several variants of it in HMM form — but this one comes with a noticeably different sculpt and gimmicks compared to the Kotobukiya version.

First off, compared to the Kotobukiya version which was 1/72, this one feels a bit on the large side for a 1/100 — but that actually works in its favor, as the bigger size allows all the gimmicks to be nicely reproduced. You can open the head up and down to reveal the cockpit, and the top of the tail folds open in three stages to expose the twin-barrel anti-aircraft missiles. The articulated joints are well done too, bending in all directions at each segment, and the neck section in particular extends out to give it an even wider range of motion.

Beyond that, there's no stand or extra accessories included — it's just the main body — but the quality and level of detail on the body itself are excellent, so it doesn't feel like much of a loss. It's pretty meaningful that the popular Zoid Molga has gotten a clean 1/100 scale plastic model release like this. If you're a Zoid fan, I'd definitely recommend giving this one a build. :-)
