Club G HGUC

G-Line Standard Armor

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This kit is the HGUC G-Line Standard Armor, released as a Club G (Premium Bandai) online exclusive. It's a unit from the PlayStation 3 game "Mobile Suit Gundam Senki: Battle Record U.C.0081," built around the concept of swapping different armor sets onto a basic frame. HGUC Full Armor Gundam 7th Unitreleased as a regular retail kit, and the HGUC Efreet Nacht released through Club G are also units from the same game.

First off, the overall build quality is really impressive. The joints are smooth yet firm without any of that stiff, polycap-less joint feel. Articulation is excellent too, so getting the poses you want is pretty easy. Putting on the Standard Armor does reduce leg range of motion due to the armor thickness, but you can improve that somewhat by using the knee extension gimmick.

Attaching and removing the Standard Armor is a smooth process — it goes on and off without any fuss. Both with and without the armor, it shows off that refined, sharp look that's distinctly Katoki Hajime. Weapons include two beam sabers, a short beam rifle, and a shield. On top of that, you can choose between a ground-use or space-use backpack, and you can also kit it out in full gear with the Gatling Smasher equipped. The one thing that's a bit disappointing is the hip joint slide gimmick meant to improve articulation — it doesn't stay locked and just wobbles around. It almost feels like the design was left half-finished.

All in all, this is a really well-done HGUC kit with a clean, polished quality throughout. It does come in at a fairly steep ¥3,000 for an HGUC, and honestly the sheer volume of content feels more like a sub-¥2,000 kit. It does feel a little overpriced, but the kit itself is so good that it doesn't really feel like bad value. Also, looking at how the basic frame and Standard Armor are separated on the runners, it seems like other variations — like a Light Armor or Assault Armor — are likely on the way. Either way, if you've been craving a UC-era GM-style kit, this is an absolute must-buy gem of a kit. :-)
