Club G HGAC

Gundam Burn Lapius

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This kit is the HGAC Gundam Burn Lapius, released as a Club G (Premium Bandai) online exclusive. Following the Club G releases of the HGAC Gundam Aesculapiusand Gundam L.O. Booster, this is the next one — based on the Gundam Geminass 01 — and it's a unit from Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Dual Story G-UNIT, released in the Operation Galiarest version equipped with claws.

This unit never appeared in the old 1997 Dual Story series kits, so this is its first time being made into a plastic model. It's got an impressive design with those massive shoulders and intimidating Golem Claws, and the excellent color separation combined with premium molded colors makes for a stunning straight build right out of the box.

The basic frame is reused from the HGAC Gundam Geminass 01, and the bulky upper body and elaborate design mean articulation isn't exactly outstanding — but the overall joint strength and stability feel noticeably improved compared to the previous releases. Honestly, the Aesculapius and Gundam L.O. Booster got so big that the Geminass joints showed some worrying stability issues. In this kit, the shoulder joints have been swapped from polycaps to standard plastic parts, which makes the most critical point — shoulder stability — rock solid. Thanks to that, poses hold well no matter what you try, and you can comfortably pull off dynamic poses using the Golem Claws too. As for weapons, you get a beam rifle, Assault Bayonet, and EMF Shield.

The transformation process into Dual Mode is relatively simple and straightforward, and you can get a pretty convincing Hi-Gogg-style form out of it. It works by adding separate transformation arms and joint parts, and the solid joint strength in the shoulders and multi-jointed arms means it handles even aggressive poses without any trouble.

All in all, this is a high-quality HGAC kit that delivers a spectacular look beyond what the source material suggests, a fun transformation gimmick, and excellent stability. Even if you were disappointed by the stability issues with the previous Aesculapius and L.O. Booster, this one should more than satisfy you. And even if you don't know the original Dual Story, the unique Hi-Gogg transformation gimmick is bound to look pretty appealing. Either way, if you were a fan of the Dual Story series or just like the style, this is one kit I can recommend without hesitation. :-)
