Zaku Ⅱ F Type Chubs & Kale + Zaku Ⅱ (Unidentified Type) Solari Custom Parts Set (RFV)

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This kit is the HG Zaku Ⅱ F Type Chubs & Kale + Zaku Ⅱ (Unidentified Type) Solari Custom Parts Set (RFV), released as a Club G (Premium Bandai) online exclusive. Just like the HG Zaku II F Type Lhuce Custom & Zaku II (Unidentified Type) Lhuce Custom (RFV)released a month earlier, it includes two molded colors of the Zaku II F Type from Requiem for Vengeance. Where the previous set featured various versions of Lhuce's custom units, this kit contains Chubs' and Kale's units.

Chubs' unit shares the same deep color scheme as Lhuce's unit, with only the shoulder spike armor made a bit sharper. Kale's unit has a brighter color scheme and comes with a new long rifle. Everything else is structurally identical to before, so it still shows off the same excellent detail and that stiff, satisfying feel when posing.

On top of that, reproduction parts for the Zaku II (Unidentified Type) Solari Custom are also included — though you'll need to separately purchase the standard release HG Zaku II F Type Solari Custom to use them. The shoulder shield is swapped out for the Magella Attack's side armor, and caterpillar track pieces are attached all over the body. The tracks need to be glued on, but the attachment areas are narrow so they don't hold very well. To get a more secure bond, you'll probably want to sand down part of the surface and glue them on a wider face — otherwise they tend to pop off when you handle the model during posing.

On top of that, sculpted details are added in front of the mono-eye and on the top of the feet, and the head antenna configuration is different too. Missile pods are added to both the forearms and legs as well. The final standout feature is the mesh netting on the spike armor — it's applied by stretching a mesh fabric over it. The mesh runs a little small so getting it on is a bit of a struggle, but once it's in place the effect is really impressive. A bonus square piece of mesh is also included so you can use it freely for additional detailing.

All the Zakus from Requiem for Vengeance have now been kit-ified — both the early Solari squad units and the later unidentified-type variants. And compared to the unidentified-type Lhuce Custom, which was an absolute nightmare with all that chain work, the unidentified-type Solari unit with its caterpillar tracks is relatively more manageable. Either way, the overall quality across all these kits is solid, so if you're a fan of the Requiem for Vengeance Zakus, these are definitely worth taking on :-)
