Club G MG

Hyaku-Shiki Kai

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This kit is the MG Hyaku-Shiki Kai, released as a Club G (Premium Bandai) online exclusive. Using the previously released Club G MG Hyaku-Shiki Kai Mass Production Typeas a base, it comes with a number of newly sculpted parts added to the mix — and on top of that, the entire armor surface gets a gloss gold coating.

At first glance it might look like just a plated version of the MG Hyaku-Shiki Kai Mass Production Type, but quite a few parts have actually been changed. The head and backpack are completely new, and the design has been revised all over — shoulders, forearms, legs, chest, skirts, feet, you name it, from head to toe. With the addition of a top-quality gold coating on top of all that, the Hyaku-Shiki Kai — which previously only existed as a design concept — has been brought to life in a far more spectacular way than I expected.

Of course, the body is based on the MG Hyaku-Shiki 2.0, so all the articulation characteristics are identical — it's a solid kit with excellent articulation and sturdy joint strength, just as you'd expect. The Hyaku-Shiki 2.0 parts are also included, so you can build it as a gloss-coated MG Hyaku-Shiki 2.0 as well. It's not a simple parts swap though — you'll need to disassemble and reassemble, so it's not exactly a quick conversion. That said, if you were always a bit disappointed by the matte coating on the standard MG Hyaku-Shiki 2.0, this is definitely worth the effort.

And as a bonus, additional joint parts for attaching the Ballute Pack to the Hyaku-Shiki Kai are also included. MG Hyaku-Shiki 1.0 + Ballute SystemThe Ballute Pack from that set, or the one released through Club G — MG Ballute Pack— can be attached with ease.

All in all, this kit turned out better than expected, and honestly feels like it would've been a hit even as a standard release. It's a fantastic kit I'd recommend to both old-school fans with fond memories of the Hyaku-Shiki lineage, and to newer fans who love flashy mobile suits. :-)
