Fumina Hoshino

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

Fumina Hoshino has been released as a Figure-rise Standard kit. There were various Fumina kits released under the HG Build Fighters lineup before, but they took a lot of heat for their awkward sculpting and proportions. Perhaps because of that, you can tell Bandai put in some effort to shake off that reputation with this Figure-rise Standard release. That said, like the Build Divers Figure-rise Standard kits — Diver Nami / Diver Ayame— it carries an official Build Fighters numbering of #68, and has accordingly been listed under the Build Fighters section of the Build menu rather than ETC/F.

The proportions and overall sculpt are a definite step up from the previous releases — it finally has the silhouette you'd expect from a girlpla. That said, the face construction is similar to the earlier HG kits, with the eyebrows and eyes still relying on stickers. water-slide decals are included too, but compared to Kotobukiya's girlplas where the faces come with precisely painted details, it still looks a bit less polished — and there's not much getting around that.

On the flip side, true to Bandai form, the overall build feel is very smooth, which sets it apart from Kotobukiya's relatively stiffer girlplas and gives it a different kind of satisfaction to put together. It's a comfortable kit to pose, with decent articulation and solid joint strength. On top of that, you can remove the yellow hoodie and swap in bare arms for a hoodie-off look, and the Petit'gguy that came with the Petit'gguy kit is included as a bonus item too.

Anyway, this is a kit worth recommending even to those who were disappointed by the HG Fumina releases up to now — it's probably the best girlpla Bandai has put out so far. :-)
