Gundam Base MG

Unicorn Gundam Perfectibility

Kit Review

Straight build + dry decals + seals

This kit is the Gundam Base exclusive MG Unicorn Gundam Perfectibility. Following the HGUC Unicorn Gundam Perfectibility (Destroy Mode)released as a Gundam Base exclusive in 2018, this is now the MG version. The kit is made up of a combination of runners from the kits listed below, with only the sub-arm that secures the Armed Armor DE provided as a newly sculpted part.

1. MG Unicorn Gundam (OVA Ver.) - Main body
2. MG Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee- Armed Armor VN & BS
3. MG Unicorn Gundam Banshee Norn - Armed Armor XC & DE
4. MG Unicorn Gundam 03 Phenex
[Narrative Ver.]
- Stabilizers
5. MG Full Armor Unicorn Gundam - Hyper Beam Jabelin

As you can see, the concept here is to gather all the weapons from the various MG Unicorn kits. The main body itself was already a bit worrying in terms of durability, and piling on all these extra weapons only makes it more so T_T. Standing it upright is manageable if you balance the center of gravity carefully, but the included joint parts do absolutely nothing to keep it fixed on a stand. (It can't even last 0.1 seconds.) That said, posing it on the ground is pretty much impossible anyway, so this is really the kind of kit that needs to be displayed in a mid-air pose.

In my case, I was able to get a decent mid-air pose by using the hip clamp-type fixing parts that come with the Action Base. (See the review photos.) Honestly, I forced it in a bit, so there's a risk of breakage — but it seems like there's really no other way. As mentioned, standing it upright is already tricky, and getting it onto a stand is even harder, so it's difficult to give it high marks for durability on any front.

On the flip side, being an MG, it's bigger and more impressive than the HGUC, with outstanding presence and a great sense of depth. Even just standing still, the sheer visual impact and volume of this kit dominates everything around it. If you use the spring tension of the rear stabilizers as a support, it actually holds upright reasonably well — though you do need to carefully balance the front-to-back center of gravity. The knee joints do feature the improved OVA version parts, but since this kit is already notorious for having some of the worst articulation among MGs, I doubt anyone's expecting flashy poses out of it.

If you think of the MG Unicorn as a "statue" that just sits there looking good, then this kit is probably the most spectacular and imposing statue of the bunch. With so many parts involved, the large box comes packed with a whopping 43 runners, which means a serious time investment to build — and a hefty price tag of ¥12,000 to match.

So, if you love the Perfectibility design but find the HG and RG too small to have real impact, and the PG too large and expensive to commit to, this might just be the perfect middle ground. It's got that MG-sized presence that's still display-case friendly, and the sculpt has a statue-like quality that really shines at this scale. Sure, there are still some frustrations with durability and posing, but the sheer visual presence of this kit is undeniable. If you go in knowing the pros and cons, it's definitely worth taking the plunge :-)
