RX-78-2 Gundam Ver.3.0 [Titanium Finish]

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This kit is the Gundam Base exclusive MG RX-78-2 Gundam Ver.3.0 [Titanium Finish]. As the name suggests, it's based on the standard release MG Gundam ver. 3.0with a Titanium Finish coating applied. No new sculpts here — it's a straightforward plated kit.

First off, the combination of the white Gundam base and the marbled Titanium Finish coating always delivers great results. On top of that, the yellow parts with Extra Finish coating and metallic-molded parts round things out, giving the whole kit a really premium look. And true to Ver.3.0's intricate layered armor structure, it adds an extra sense of fine detail and craftsmanship. Honestly, out of all the plated RX-78 Gundam releases so far, this one looks the best.

That said, Ver.3.0's structural issues carry over as-is — the coating on the exterior doesn't do anything to improve joint strength. Since only the outer armor is coated, the armor pieces that don't lock in securely and the somewhat iffy joint strength are still there in various spots. It's a reminder once again that when it comes to overall structural stability, MG Gundam ver.2.0still takes the crown.

Since this is essentially just a plated version, the main thing to pay attention to in this review is how the coating looks and feels. If the joints had gotten a boost in sturdiness from the coating too, this would've been an easy top recommendation — which makes it a little disappointing. Still, the coating visuals are the best of any Gundam kit to date, so if the style speaks to you, this Titanium Finish version is definitely worth going for. :-)
