Mailes Jogan

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This kit is the HG Mailes Jogan, released as entry No. 0 in the Kyoukai Senki series. The basic layout and concept are HG Mailes Kenbualmost identical, but the overall exterior design has been changed, and the reverse-jointed legs come out a bit shorter and more straightened out.

The basic articulation is also pretty much the same as the HG Mailes Kenbu, though the legs feel a bit less dynamic, probably because they're shorter. That said, the flexible shoulder and waist movement carries over just the same, so you can naturally pull off all kinds of poses from the show. The Jogan's signature 120mm twin-barrel sniper cannon firing pose — with the rear skirt swapped out into a support leg — is doable too, and you can even get a pretty demanding kneeling pose out of it. One minor gripe though: the combat dagger stored in the small left shoulder shield doesn't hold very well and tends to pop out during posing.

All in all, true to the Kyoukai Senki series, this is a high-quality action model kit with excellent articulation and solid joint strength. The reverse joints aren't as extreme here, so it might be a bit more broadly appealing, but the hunched-over proportions are still there. Anyway, setting aside any opinions on the source material — if the design speaks to you, this looks like a pretty fun kit to build. :-)
