The Gundam Leopard from Gundam X has been released as part of the HGAW lineup. It's been exactly 30 years since the old 1996 1/144 Gundam Leopardcame out, so this is finally getting the HG treatment. And given how long we've waited, it definitely benefits a lot from modern engineering.

First off, the overall color separation is really clean. Aside from special areas like the eyes and camera eye, no stickers are used to replicate the design colors. Even so, the excellent parts breakdown perfectly recreates the color combination on the chest and inner arm Gatling. Thanks to that, it already looks great as a straight build.

The joints also hit all three marks — great articulation, smooth movement, and solid hold. There's none of that stiffness you sometimes get with polycap-less kits, so posing feels comfortable. One particularly new approach is the hip joint pin, where the central pivot itself is implemented as a large ball joint. It does have the advantage of letting you shift the hip pin in various directions, but compared to conventional sliding hip joint pins, the range of motion is actually narrower, so the thigh articulation doesn't improve all that dramatically.

The various gimmicks on the body are faithfully reproduced as well — you can deploy the shoulder missiles, breast missiles, and the knee Hornet missiles. The grenade launcher on the right arm slides out on a sliding mechanism, and the process of combining the left arm with the inner arm Gatling is neatly executed too.
