HG MS-06

Zaku (GQ)

Kit Review

Straight build + Seals

The Zaku (GQ) has been released as the 10th HG kit in the "Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX" lineup. The HG Military Police Zaku'smolded colors have been changed to olive drab, with some new tooling applied. The shoulder and thigh designs have been revised, and a Zaku Bazooka has been newly added.

So all the structural characteristics are identical to the Military Police Zaku, and it still shows that stiff feel in the joints and frustratingly limited leg articulation. That said, poses hold really well because of it — though the restricted hip articulation does make really dynamic posing a bit tough. The newly added Zaku Bazooka is decent quality, and the articulated handle makes it easy to position. The emergency light on the shoulder is gone, and the detail on the round section of the thigh has been tweaked slightly.

On top of that, like previous Zakus, there's also a gimmick to swap in a head with a commander-type antenna. Just like the Military Police Zaku, there are a lot of small seals, so the seal work takes quite a bit of time — and the adhesion on the seals is weak, making some of them tricky to apply. That part hasn't changed either.

So while some new tooling has been applied, it honestly feels pretty close to just being a color variant. That said, olive drab really does suit the Zaku. Anyway, there are a few minor gripes with the articulation, joints, and seals, but thanks to its fresh style and solid sculpt, I'd say it's still a pretty recommendable HG. :-)
