Kotobukiya Cross Frame Girl

Gaofighgar

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is Gaofighgar released as part of the Cross Frame Girl series. At first glance it might look like a variation of the Cross Frame Girl GaoGaiGarreleased back in 2019, but it's actually a completely new kit from the inner frame to the exterior armor. Quality has been upgraded in a number of ways.

First off, given the nature of the character, the overall build concept is pretty similar to GaoGaiGar — the idea of collecting the weapons separated from the body to recreate individual mecha is the same. But unlike GaoGaiGar which gave you 3 mecha, this kit lets you build 4. Phantom Gao, Liner Gao II, Stealth Gao III, and Drill Gao II can all be recreated separately from the main body, and the main figure itself can be displayed in body mode or Gaofar mode by breaking down the weapons. On top of that, you can also do body mode (light armor) and Gaofar (Type B) by removing the skirt.

In body mode, Phantom Gao can be mounted on the back, and Gaofar can combine with Liner Gao II, Stealth Gao III, and Drill Gao II to recreate the high-speed flight mode. Like GaoGaiGar, you can also equip the Powered Suit, and use it to collaborate with the Goldymarg from the Cross Frame Girl Goldymarg &
Stealth Gao II set
. Goldymarg can also be applied to the Gaofighgar body itself without the Powered Suit, but in that case a separate stand is pretty much required due to durability concerns. Other than that, dedicated mecha hands for recreating Hell and Heaven are included, same as with GaoGaiGar.

As for accessories, a tray and 2 drink cups for use in body mode are included — it almost feels like accessories from Sousai Shoujo Teien, and you can securely lock the tray in place using the hole in the open palm hand. Also, splitting the tray into two pieces lets you use them as effect parts for Gaofighgar's Protect Wall and Broken Arrow. The Dividing Driver body reuses parts from GaoGaiGar, but a new Type B driver has been added.

As you can see in the comparison photos above, it's bigger and more visually striking than GaoGaiGar. Thankfully, joint strength has improved significantly, making it much more stable overall. The articulation itself is about the same, but with better joint durability, posing and holding poses has become a lot easier.

So this kit comes with a wide variety of uses and accessories, and the price is also a "gorgeous" (...) ¥11,000. There are a lot of parts so assembly takes a while, and with so many gimmicks, just the photo shoot for the review took around 6 hours. Anyway, it's a kit that demands a lot of hands-on time, but the joint durability is solid so the stress of working on it is pretty low. If you're a fan of super robot shows and girl-type Gunpla, this seems like a high-end girl Gunpla well worth taking on. :-)
