Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is the Frame Artist Hatsune Miku, released as part of the Frame Arms series. Frame Arms Girl Hatsune Mikuis reimagined as a cyborg version, and while some runners are reused, quite a few of the exterior parts come as new sculpts. Since it's going for a mechanical concept, it's been categorized under the regular Frame Arms line rather than Frame Arms Girl. (FA No. 49)

The basic skeletal structure and parts layout are almost identical to the FAG Miku, with the design simply reworked in a more cyborg-like direction. The articulation and joint strength are the same solid, no-fuss experience, and the microphone with its stand is included just like before. The biggest gimmick difference is the ability to spread the hair out into three strands — it looks flashy, but there's something a little unsettling about it too. On top of that, you can swap the forearms into their deployed form, and human-type face/bangs along with skin-colored shoulders and thighs are included to recreate a more human-looking Miku.

So the whole concept is basically taking the existing Miku and giving her a cyborg makeover — it's fun to build a Miku in a completely different style. That said, the larger hair makes it tricky to keep her balanced when standing upright, so it's probably safest to keep her on a stand. The weight of the hair also makes the neck a bit of a struggle, and the neck joint feels like it's lost a little strength because of it. Either way, if you're a Miku fan, there's definitely something to be said for building yet another take on her. :-)
