Unlike the original Gourai, which only took design inspiration from a tank, this kit actually transforms into one.

First off, the overall proportions and design are quite different from the original Gourai. The larger bulk, bigger caterpillar tracks, and oversized side armor on the shoulders give it a completely different silhouette. On top of that, it ditches the shared Frame Arms Architect frame entirely in favor of a brand-new dedicated frame — which is a bit of a departure from the usual Frame Arms concept of reusing the same frame and just swapping out the armor.

Thanks to that dedicated frame, the joint strength across the kit is excellent. They're sturdy yet smooth — pretty much ideal joints. Weapons-wise, you get one standard equipment sword and a scabbard. That said, since it's loaded up with all the transformation gear, pulling off dynamic poses is a bit tricky.

Transforming into tank mode requires a somewhat involved process of disassembly and reassembly. The resulting tank shape looks decent enough, but the armor panels on the sides of the turret and the caterpillar tracks don't lock in all that securely, which hurts the overall sturdiness. Adding the auxiliary parts to the underside does help lock the tracks down properly, but the stability in transformed mode still leaves a little to be desired.

All that said, this is a fun follow-up that brings a new frame, a fresh look, and a tank transformation gimmick to the table. The transformation process and the end result are a bit lacking, but the fact that it can transform at all is genuinely appealing. Either way, it's a solid kit in terms of quality, so if the design catches your eye or you're into the tank transformation concept, it's definitely worth giving a shot. :-)
