Kotobukiya Grande Scale

Stylet

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is the Stylet released as a Frame Arms Girl Grande Scale. Like the previous Grande Scale releases, it's an upscaled version of the original Frame Arms Girl Stylet, and with the larger parts, the color separation on the body and wing sections has improved a bit.

The overall construction is pretty much the same as the previous releases — it feels like only the looks have been refreshed. It still shows decent articulation and slightly iffy joint strength. Stylet's design is bigger and more elaborate than Gourai or Innocentia, so the structure does give a bit more cause for concern in terms of durability. It holds up fine standing straight or locked into a quick pose, but the joints feel a bit shaky for holding poses with raised arms or legs over a long period.

The biggest thing to watch out for with this kit is the waist joint. During assembly, the hard ABS waist joint ended up cracking. (See the review photos above.) All I did was press the waist parts together to connect them, and it broke before I even tried to move it — pretty shocking. It seems like the issue came from designing the tolerances too tight for such a rigid material. This left the waist feeling loose, and I ended up wrapping some double-sided tape around it and re-inserting it to barely get the hold back. The structure itself is similar to the previous kits, but it seems like extra care is needed when connecting the hard ABS joints.

As long as you watch out for the waist joint issue, this is a well-made girl-pla with satisfyingly chunky parts that go together nicely. The appeal of a big girl-pla is real, so if you were a fan of the original Stylet, this seems like a kit worth giving a shot. :-)
