Gundam Base MG

Zaku Warrior (Live Concert Ver.)

Kit Review

Straight build + waterslide decals + stickers

This kit is the MG Zaku Warrior (Live Concert Ver.), released as a Gundam Base exclusive. It's the pink Zaku that was quite popular back in the HG days, and now it's gotten the MG treatment. Based on the standard release MG Gunner Zaku Warrior - Lunamaria Hawke custom, the molded colors have been changed and the weapons loadout has been trimmed down.

At its core this is a color variant kit, so all the structural features are the same as before — it still goes together quickly and easily with fewer parts than you'd expect from an MG, and shows solid articulation and stable joint strength. The special highlights are the pink molded color and the exclusive markings. You get a lovely soft pink molded color along with a good variety of markings provided as waterslide decals. The one downside is that the three shield spikes use yellow stickers instead, which are hard to apply cleanly and end up looking pretty out of place — a bit of a shame.

Still, compared to the HG Zaku Warrior (Ver. Live Concert)released as a standard kit back in 2005, or the 1/100 Zaku Warrior - Live Concert Extra Finishreleased as a Carerhobby limited edition in 2007, this one is on a whole different level of quality. The gap in years is huge, and being an MG, the level of refinement is simply incomparable. On top of that, you get two newly sculpted bonus parts — a pilot-pose and a standing-pose 1/100 Mia Campbell figure are included, letting you recreate various scenes with her resting in the palm of the Zaku's hand.

So yes, it's a straightforward color variant, but the clean molded colors and solid overall quality make this a kit with a lot of appeal. The build difficulty is on the easier side too, so as long as it's your kind of thing, it seems like a great kit you could happily recommend even to beginners. :-)
